Why we aren't crowdfunding our store

The title may be a bit misleading. Bear with me.

A number of zero waste stores have tried crowdfunding their idea to get the initial capital to open. While many people support the notion of having these stores available and the work to reduce plastics, most of these campaigns fall flat. There were so many campaigns out there, we briefly considered doing one ourselves. But why were these campaigns resulting in a ton of work for the shopowner, but very little (if any) funding at the end of the day?

Turns out people don't want to donate to a for-profit business. Shocking, I know. People want to support a business that shares their values... but only when there is value in it for everyone.  Makes perfect sense, when you think about it.

So we aren't doing a typical crowdfunding. Our capital raise comes from the products we have been selling since 2019.  You see, we do our best to deliver value to our supporters every day. So - shop with us, and you won't just get your dish soap refilled. You'll also be funding the seeds of a larger (hopefully MUCH larger) project. Or think of it as the reverse... you're supporting a project to bring a refill store to San Mateo, but getting something immediate in return.

We value your support, and hope to see you in-person in the near future. Spread the word with your friends, family, and neighbors to help us get there!  We'll bring the dish soap ;)
